A native of South Korea, Hyemin (Heather) Kim began music training at the age of six. She won the highest award at the Young Artist Competition in Daejeon, South Korea when she was eleven and received a second prize and scholarship for two years when she was in her middle school. Hyemin was awarded special admission to Kyung Hee University when she was eighteen. In 2006, she moved to New York for the master’s degree program at the Manhattan School of Music, and studied under the supervision of Professor Daniel Epstein.

In 2009, Kim moved to Florida to pursue her Doctorate in Music under the supervision of Dr. Read Gainsford at Florida State University. After a year, she was hired by FSU to work as a teaching assistant and also received an award for her performance in the 2010 FSU Chopin Competition. In 2012, Ms. Kim was invited to perform in the Carnegie Weill Hall in New York City after winning the Carnegie Competition presented by FSU, and, in 2013, she completed her doctoral solo recital, featuring Beethoven “Hammerklavier” Sonata in Longmire Hall, part of College of Music in Florida State University.

Introduction to Chung Gil Kim's GO POONG with emphasis on pedagogical studies" in 2015, Dr. Kim moved back to New York City and began to teach piano in the Preparatory Center for the Arts at Montclair State University, and serving sacred organ music at Riverdale Presbyterian Church until 2016.

In 2018, she started teaching piano at Western Carolina University. 

Dr. Kim’s music repertoire on the piano and organ includes solos and duets, ensemble pieces, and accompaniment for vocal and other instruments. She is constantly performing internationally and throughout the United States as a chamber ensemble member and as a soloist.

She is also running a private piano studio and serving organ and piano music on Sundays at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina as well as contracting as a performer and lecturer in and around North Carolina.
